Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about QR codes and how to use QRSync.

What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store various types of information including URLs, text, contact details, WiFi credentials, and more. When scanned with a smartphone camera or QR reader app, it instantly directs users to the encoded content. QR codes were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave in Japan and have since become ubiquitous in marketing, payments, and information sharing.

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?

Static QR codes encode the destination directly in the code pattern. Once created, they cannot be changed. They're ideal for permanent information that won't need updates.

Dynamic QR codes encode a short redirect URL instead of the final destination. This provides two key advantages:

  • You can change where the QR code points to without reprinting it
  • You can track scan analytics (count, location, device, time)

Dynamic QR codes are perfect for marketing campaigns, menus, product packaging, or any content that may need updates.

Is QRSync free to use?

Yes! QRSync offers free QR code generation with no signup required. You can create unlimited static QR codes completely free, customize colors, add logos, and download in high quality.

Dynamic QR codes with analytics tracking are available when you create a free account. Your account lets you manage your QR codes, view scan statistics, and update destinations anytime.

What types of QR codes can I create?

QRSync supports multiple QR code types:

  • Website URL - Link to any website or landing page
  • WiFi - Share network credentials for instant connection
  • Business Card (vCard) - Share contact information
  • Email - Pre-fill recipient, subject, and message
  • Phone - Enable one-tap calling
  • WhatsApp - Start conversations with pre-filled messages
  • Plain Text - Any text content
Can I add a logo to my QR code?

Yes! QRSync allows you to upload and add your logo or image to the center of your QR code. Thanks to error correction technology, QR codes can still be scanned even when part of them is covered by a logo.

For best results, we recommend:

  • Using a logo that covers no more than 30% of the QR code area
  • Using a simple, high-contrast logo design
  • Testing the QR code after adding a logo to ensure scannability
What file formats can I download?

QRSync supports two export formats:

  • PNG - Raster image format, great for digital use and standard printing. Choose your desired resolution for the output.
  • SVG - Vector format that can scale to any size without losing quality. Ideal for large-format printing, billboards, or when you need maximum flexibility.
Do QR codes expire?

Static QR codes never expire. They will work forever as long as the destination content (like a website) remains available.

Dynamic QR codes remain active as long as your QRSync account is active. You can pause a dynamic QR code if you want to temporarily disable it, or update its destination at any time from your dashboard.

Can I track QR code scans?

Yes! With dynamic QR codes, QRSync provides detailed analytics including:

  • Total scan count
  • Scan location (country, city)
  • Device type (mobile, tablet, desktop)
  • Operating system
  • Scan date and time

Analytics are available in your dashboard when you create a free account.

How do I customize QR code colors?

QRSync provides extensive customization options:

  • Foreground color - The color of the QR code modules (squares)
  • Background color - The background behind the code
  • Transparent background - Option to remove background entirely
  • Color presets - Pre-designed color combinations

For best scanning reliability, ensure there's sufficient contrast between foreground and background colors. Dark colors on light backgrounds typically work best.

What is error correction level?

Error correction allows QR codes to be scanned even when partially damaged or obscured. QRSync supports four levels:

  • L (Low) - 7% recovery capacity
  • M (Medium) - 15% recovery capacity (default)
  • Q (Quartile) - 25% recovery capacity
  • H (High) - 30% recovery capacity

Higher error correction makes the QR code more scannable but also larger. Use higher levels when adding logos or printing on materials that might get dirty or damaged.

How small can I print a QR code?

The minimum size depends on the content length and where the code will be scanned. General guidelines:

  • Business cards - Minimum 2cm x 2cm (0.8" x 0.8")
  • Flyers/brochures - Minimum 2-3cm (0.8-1.2")
  • Posters - Scale based on viewing distance
  • Billboards - Larger codes for scanning from distance

Always test your QR code at the intended print size before mass production.
